Kenny Everett Relics
Maurice Cole (1944-1985), using the name Kenny Everett, was a English DJ that had a number of encounters with the Beatles. Kenny accompanied them on their August 1966 tour of the United States, sending back daily reports for Radio London. He also produced their 1968 and 1969 Christmas records. He interviewed them during the making of the White Album; the interview was released in Italy as Una Sensazionale Intervista Dei Beatles. Its on youtube; its hilarious. We've ended up with a number of interesting relics from Kenny.
Top (red EMITAPE box) is a radio show Kenny Everett Show from the early 70s taped at 15 inches per second.
Next (brown, orange, white EMITAPE box) is a number of Kenny Everett radio commercials for Baby Cham, Gillette, Spruce Aftershave (five versions), one for Pony and five versions for Palmolive Shaving Cream.
Next (blue, red and orange EMITAPE box) are recordings for Radio Luxembourg including three spots offering Radio Luxy Christmas Tee shirts (30 sec, 45 seconds and 1:03) and an introduction for fellow-DJ Kid Jensen (0:30) and a spot for Granada TV (0:30). The recording is 7.5 ips.
Most interesting of the bunch is the unedited original version of Kenny's 1968 Beatles Christmas message 11:02 long (subsequently edited down to 7:20),
Then there is an interesting historical artifact, a letter to Kenny from Derek Taylor asking Kenny to make specific changes to the 1968 Beatles Christmas Message to edit it to 7:20 so that it can fit onto the Lyntone flexi. For fans of the Beatles Christmas flexis, together the 11:02 version plus the letter from Derek offer a rare glimpse into the creation of these awesome, bizarre recordings. The recording is 7.5 ips.
A BASF tape in a hard plastic case containing the 11:02 unedited version version of the 1968 Beatles Christmas Message, followed by several Radio Luxembourg spots. The recording is 7.5 ips.
Next is a 5 inch EMITAPE 5 that has two shows from Radio London, April 12, 1966, The Top Deck Show and The Kenny Everett Show from Feburary 4, 1967 taped at 7.5 ips.
Finally another 5 inch EMITAPE 5 containing Kenny's ESSO show for Radio Luxembourg April 21, 1969. The recording is 7.5 ips.
